ROBERT JOHN THORNTON 1768-1837
Thornton was an English Physician and botanical writer who commissioned a unique collection of illustrations for part lll of his epic publication, The New Illustration of the sexual system of Carolus von Linnæus. This collection of illustrations titled The Temple of Flora was published in 1807 and is considered by many to be the greatest of all flower books.
