LOUIS RENARD 1678-1746
A collection of amazing colorful fish from the publication Poissons Ecrevisses et Crabes de Diverses Couleurs et Figures Extraordinaries, by the Dutch publisher and engraver Louis Renard.
Ambon based Dutch soldier Samuel Fallours painted many of the illustrations featuring marine life from the East Indian Ocean.
Compiled in 1708-1709 it was the first book to be published about marine species in colour, and for
its age, has a surprisingly contemporary look.
